Dennis AsKew, ITEA President
ITEC 2008 was a complete success! Tim Northcut and his crew are to be commended again and again for the mind-numbing work that went into making it all happen. Now, as we focus this year on our Regional conferences, we begin to look to Arizona for the conference on 2010, as Kelly Thomas and Mark Nelson are putting together our next International Conference. There will be much information coming about that, as well as more information to be found on www.iteaonline.org about our Regionals in 2009.
As always, our ITECs allow us to come together as a community of performers, enthusiasts, teachers and students and enjoy what we do, together. This year we listened, honored, remembered, played, competed, observed, bought, sold and learned like no other. I truly hope that if you missed this summer’s event, you won’t miss the next one.
Behind the scenes, the Board of Directors has been working to move towards our new “legal-according-to-the-IRS” structures, and you’ll be hearing more about that as time goes on, as well. Most things are not changing at all, but there have been a few tweaks that will be evident—such as the name change of “Executive Committee” to “Board of Directors,” and so forth. These changes are all essential to keep us compliant with the IRS and as transparent to you and to them as we can be. As it was stated to the BoD by our lawyers, “you’re fine for now, but in a year, you might not be.” So, we’re adapting as needed. Truly, without our move to hire Jennifer Jester as Executive Director, we wouldn’t be moving as deftly through this process, I expect. Everyone, please give her a big “thank you” when you see her, or when you’re sending in your membership, etc.
Jason Smith, as usual, has put together a great Journal for us—his work is second to none, and he is another we owe hearty thanks to on a regular basis.
If you have news items, please share them with us, and if you have questions or concerns about ITEA, as always, I welcome hearing from you.
