Hello ITEA Members!
First, I would like to congratulate and thank all of the 2013 regional conference hosts: Andrew Rummel, Chris Dickey and Ben Kirby, Joe Skillen and Brian Gallion, Aaron Tindall, Seth Fletcher, Andrew Glendening and Scott Sutherland, and Marc Dickman. Their tireless efforts and dedication to hosting successful conferences are recognized and appreciated. And thank YOU, ITEA members, for participating in these exciting events. The overall attendance of the regional conferences has generated hundreds of new memberships for the organization, which means that we can begin directing our energies to more topical projects such as commissioning new works and creating more support for future ITECs.
ITEC 2014! Prepare yourself for the celebration of a lifetime – a reunion of all reunions – at Indiana University, with our hosts Dan Perantoni and the Jacobs School of Music. ITEC 2014 marks the 40th anniversary of the organization. It will be cause for a grand celebration! Please refer to the ITEA website and future ITEA Journals for more information about the conference.
New beginnings are on the horizon. In July, I will pass the torch to Jerry Young, your new ITEA President and leader. It has been my pleasure to serve the organization as ITEA President. I remember very well the day I received a congratulatory phone call from David Zerkel. I was honored but scared to death! I knew deep down that it was time to take on a new challenge. You have been my inspiration and motivation. Thank you. These past two years have proved fruitful in many ways, personally and professionally. It is awesome to look back and see the growth and learning in my own life. It has been an honor to work with so many talented and motivating people, people who have dedicated themselves to the organization and who share an interest in the tuba and the euphonium. In retrospect, the accomplishments of our team over the past two years include stabilizing the organizational budget, moving to a new location, expanding the board to include more representation of the constituency, hosting an ITEC in Linz Austria, facilitating seven regional conferences, expanding the website, and expanding the Journal to include more diverse offerings for our membership. Bravo!
I would like to thank everyone who serves on the Executive Committee and the Board of Directors for their vision and dedication to the task at hand, They serve the organization and our membership, continually finding new ways to engage current members, grow the membership, and inspire involvement. I am extremely confident that with new leadership – Jerry Young as President and Marty Ericson as Vice President/President elect, the association will continue to reach significant milestones in the best interest of our members.
I do not like saying goodbye, so I will say “until next time our paths may cross.” It has been a great pleasure serving you and I look forward to seeing you at future conferences and events. As Past President, I will serve in a more reflective role, helping to carry on the traditions and preserve the past as we move forward into a new era.
