Dr. Kelly Thomas, ITEC 2010 Co-Host
First of all, credit must be given for a fantastic international conference we experienced in Cincinnati! Tim Northcut deserves praise for creating such a rich and vibrant program. Congratulations to those who performed and presented and a special thanks to the Conservatory of Music, the University of Cincinnati, and the staff who helped make the conference run smoothly.
The University of Arizona School of Music is truly honored and excited to be selected as the host of the 2010 International Tuba Euphonium Conference. This exciting event will be presented May 25–29, 2010 at the School of Music, University of Arizona, Tucson, Arizona, USA. Tucson, Arizona is one of the most exciting tourist towns in the United States. With its excellent live music scene, vibrant nightlife, and fantastic variety of restaurants and shops, a good time is sure to be had by all!
ITEC 2010 will encompass six days of concerts, recitals, lectures, panel discussions, competitions, and master classes by the world’s foremost classical and jazz tuba and euphonium artists. An extensive exhibit of instruments, mouthpieces, mutes, music, and recordings will also be available during the conference. These conferences have provided us an opportunity to showcase great artists and ensembles, present master classes, lectures, and panel discussions by well-known teachers and performers, hold outstanding student competitions, and experience the latest trends from our music industry.
Planning is well underway, and the first task is choosing performers and presenters. All performers are asked to submit a proposal online via the ITEA website (www.iteaonline.org/ITEC2010).These proposals will be evaluated by the conference steering committee who will choose the performers and presenters. We will try to include as many of your proposals as possible.
It is with great pleasure that I invite you to come to Tucson and be awed by your heroes and inspired by your colleagues. The theme of the 2010 is an acronym of ITEC: Innovate, Translate, Educate, Create. From the world class featured artists and lecturers, to the wonderful exhibitors that will be present, to the charm of the southwest desert, we’re sure you’ll be entertained and inspired by the week! See you in 2010!!
