“The Pedagogy of Great Musicianship”
|Location, Location, Location
Located in south-central Denver, the 180,000 square-foot Robert and Judi Newman Center for the Performing Arts, conference headquarters for ITEC 2006, anchors the south end of the University of Denver campus. Just 8 miles from downtown Denver and 15 miles from the Rocky Mountains, the architecturally and acoustically magnificent new center is home to the Lamont School of Music and also houses a concert/grand opera hall, flexible theatre, magnificent recital hall with 56-rank, 3,000-pipe Schuke Orgelbau Berlin organ, and a gorgeous central gathering hall—the Joy Burns Plaza. The center also features technologically and acoustically sophisticated teaching studios and rehearsal rooms, a magnificent music library with keyboard/computer lab, a professional state-of-the-art recording studio which connects to all rehearsal and concert spaces, spacious “penthouse” practice rooms on the top floor, and “smart-to-theseat” classrooms.
In addition to events at the Newman Center, one evening has been planned at the world famous Red Rocks Amphitheater, located on the edge of the Rocky Mountains. A tubaeuphonium concert, open to all conference registrants, will precede an appropriately “camp” film-on-the-rocks event.
Plan to arrive early or stay late and take in some of the great Colorado sites: Rocky Mountain National Park, Coors Brewing Company, Central City & Blackhawk, ride the narrow gauge railroad in Georgetown, ski at A-Basin, or play your horn atop the 14,000+ ft Mt Evans!
