Conferenc Corner Harri Lidsle, ITEC 2001 Host
Summer in the city—ITEC the hottest thing!
Dear friends all over the Tuba and Euphonium community…
We hope that you have already registered for ITEC in Finland, – you and your family! From our previous reports you surely know that we have a fantastic conference program with brilliant concerts. Lahti is a lively, small city well-known for its unique nature at the gate of the Lake Finland Area, but only a one hour drive from our capital, Helsinki, and its international airport. Those of the participants who choose to come to Finland by boat from Stockholm (Sweden) have made an unforgettable choice to enjoy the famous archipelago between the two countries on their way.
You can find information concerning the conference at our web site, HYPERLINK “http://www.musicfinland.com/brass/itec/” www.musicfinland.com/brass/itec/ with the latest list of the artists, lecturers and schedules. From there you can easily send us questions, visit the chat room with other participants and organizers, and find links to your main topics of interest.
Our special message to you is: bring your family uith you when you come! We have lots of programs for them, too! For the spouses (and some of the children, too) we have planned tours and activities in the area surrounding Lahti, but also further away – even to Helsinki (the capital). Art, shopping and museums will be in good balance with nature, leisure and adventures… For children we have professional personnel who have planned events such as beach games, canoeing, sailing, adventures, water disco etc. The groups will be divided into three categories based on the age of the participants; small children (less than 6 years), children (from 6 to 11 years) and teenagers (of course some of them might want to participate the conference!) The payments will be reasonable and you can pick what you (or they) like from the available programs!
Of course you can also make a program of your own according to your personal choice and special interests. In Lahti (and in Finland in general), it is very easy to get around since English is called our second native language, and it is safe to travel and walk about… Pre- and post-conference tours include visits to Lapland (Santa Claus is waiting to see you!), Estonia (Tallinn) and Russia (St. Petersburg). Our staff, together with the Lahti Tourist Office is eager to help you with whatever questions you have concerning your stay here in Finland. The only thing we don’t even try to arrange is snow in Lahti, – everything else is not counted “mission impossible” beforehand! So, be cool and attend the ITEC and Lahti Brass Festival to make it hottest thing of summer 2001!
I welcome you most warmly.
Your conference host, Hard Lidsk and the organizing staff
