Dr. Joseph “Jobey” Wilson has recently accepted the position of Assistant Professor of Music at Pittsburg State University in Kansas, where he will serve as Director of Athletic Bands, Symphonic Band, and Instructor of Tuba and Euphonium. He will begin serving in this role in Fall 2023. Originally from Broken Arrow, Oklahoma, he and his family are incredibly excited to return to the region. A Boston freelancer for 24 years, Dr. Wilson is Principal Tuba of the New Bedford, Lexington, and Atlantic Symphony Orchestras, the Portland Brass Quintet, and teaches at Boston College, University of Southern Maine, UMASS-Boston, and Bentley University. He is a solo recording artist for PARMA Recordings and a clinician for the Eastman Music Company. He is often called to perform with groups such as the Boston Pops, Boston Ballet, Portland Symphony, Rhode Island Philharmonic, Boston Modern Orchestra Project, and many others. Dr. Wilson began his Camp Jobey Summer Brass Institutes in 2013 (campjobeybrass.com) which were the only live music camps held in New England during the summer of 2020. He holds degrees from Boston University (DMA), New England Conservatory (MM), and the University of Oklahoma (BM), having studied with Mike Roylance, Chester Schmitz, and Ted Cox, respectively.
