Conrad Shaw is the new Principal Tubist with the Richmond Symphony. He began playing with the orchestra in February 2023. A native of Brentwood, TN, Conrad began playing the tuba as a freshman in high school marching band. He went on to earn a bachelor’s degree in music performance at Samford University, studying under Demondrae Thurman, and a master’s degree in music performance at New England Conservatory, studying with Mike Roylance of the Boston Symphony. Additionally, Conrad was a fellow at Tanglewood Music Center in 2017 and 2018 and was the winner of the Birmingham Music Club Guild Solo Competition in 2015.
