|Created in 1986 by former students of Dr. Leonard Falcone (1899-1985), the festival was initially conceived as a solo competition for euphonium. Tuba was added to the competition slate in 1996. In 1991 the festival committee supplemented the competition stages with additional activities including lessons, ensembles, master classes, and clinics, which are generally led by the adjudication panel.
