2011 ITEA Midwest Regional Tuba-Euphonium Conference

2011 ITEA Midwest Regional Tuba-Euphonium Conference
Deanna Swoboda & Mark Cox, Conference Hosts

Thank you for attending and participating in MWRTEC! The Midwest Regional Tuba Euphonium Conference was a success thanks to your ITEA member participation. The two day event was packed with numerous guest artists and presenters, instrument and music exhibits, student and artist competitions, great facilities at Central Michigan University, camaraderie and great food, who could ask for more! Mark Cox and I co-hosted the event and had a fantastic time working together and organizing all of the details—that is of course, with the help of our tuba and euphonium students at Central Michigan and Western Michigan Universities. Hosting a successful conference takes months of planning and preparation, but, in the end, it’s good to know that everyone had a great time.

The festivities began Friday morning with Artist and Student Solo competitions. In addition to all of the wonderful artist solo performances and informative masterclasses, we offered morning warm up sessions for all participants and a mass reading ensemble. The Friday night concert featured the competitions artist winners with the Central Michigan University Symphonic Wind Ensemble and closed featuring jazz euphonium artist David Bandman and the CMU faculty jazz sextet. The conference ended on Saturday afternoon with a memorable performance given by the West Point Tuba Euphonium Quartet.

Congratulations to the winners of the competitions (and thank you to our judges!):
