The Mock Band Audition Tuba gives students the opportunity to show their skills in the wind band repertoire. The repertoire and setup is like a regular audition.

Eligibility

All competitors must be ITEA members at the time of the live rounds (semifinals and finals) of the competition. Finalists and semi-finalists must be registered and present at ITEC. The competitors must never have held a full-time professional position as a musician on any instrument.

Criteria

The jury is looking for excellent performances of high musical and technical standards.

Rules

Finalists and semi-finalists must be registered and present at ITEC 2023 to be held Monday, May 29 – June 3, 2023 at the Arizona State University in Tempe, Arizona, USA.
All competitors will pay a reduced registration fee for ITEC.

Prizes

Prize amounts will be announced in early 2023.

1 Recorded preliminary round

Excerpts need to be recorded in the order listed below and combined in a single audio file. Excerpts may be recorded separately, but may not be edited (other than combining the excerpt recordings into the single file for submission). Be sure to record all bracketed passages.

  • 2. Third Symphony (Barnes, Southern Music) Mvt. I: pick-up to Sq 1 thru 4 bars after Sq 3 and Mvt. IV: 3 bars before Sq 116 through downbeat of Sq 117
  • 3. Celebration Overture (Creston, Shawnee Press) Tuba 1 part: play 4 bars after Allegro giusto thru downbeat of 180.
  • 4. Hope (Gates, C. Alan Publications): play pick-ups to bar after Sq 136 to Sq 146 and play pick-ups to 3 bars after Sq 162 thru 2 bars after Sq 168 and Sq 195 (dotted q=128) to thedownbeat of Sq 212.
