Electronics Competition

This competition is geared toward tuba & euphonium soloist who perform works that utilize electronics. Special consideration will be given to competitors who present original material.

Eligibility

All competitors must be ITEA members at the time of the live rounds (semifinals and finals) of the competition. Finalists and semi-finalists must be registered and present at the competition event, for example, ITEC. The competitors must never have held a full-time professional position as a musician on any instrument.

Criteria

The jury is looking for excellent performances of high musical and technical standards.

Rules

Finalists and semi-finalists must be registered and present at ITEC 2023 to be held Monday, May 29 – June 3, 2023 at the Arizona State University in Tempe, Arizona, USA. All competitors will pay a reduced registration fee for ITEC.

Prizes

Prize amounts will be announced in early 2023.

Rounds and repertoire

1 Recorded preliminary round
Choose between one of the options.
Chosen repertoire:
  • Euphonium & Tuba: Cyber-Punk Spaceship – Cassie Eide/Amy Ige/Brendan Ige (available for free here)
  • Original material (5 minutes or less)
3 Final round
Required repertoire:
  • Euphonium: Necroterror – Ian Lester (Cimarron Music Press) AND EITHER 1) Original material (7 minutes or less) or 2) Published electronics piece of your choice (under 7 minutes)
  • Tuba: Heavy Metal Concerto mvt. I – Evan Zegiel (evanzegiel.com) AND EITHER 1) Original material (7 minutes or less) or 2) Published electronics piece of your choice (under 7 minutes)
2 Second round
Choose either the tuba or euphonium option OR an original piece (5 min or less)
Required repertoire:
  • Euphonium: Cypher – Kevin Day (Kevin Day Music)
  • Tuba: The Robots Are Taking Over – Brooke Pierson (Taurus Music Publishing)
Chosen repertoire:
  • Original material (5 minutes or less)
