Hello ITEA members! Upon returning from Linz Austria, ITEC 2012, my first response was WOW!!! Congratulations to Steven Mead and Hubert Gurtner for hosting an extraordinary conference. The Bruknerhaus, Linz was picturesque and more delightful than anticipated. As a participant, one could visit the exhibits with a panoramic view of the Danube River and the city of Linz in the background. In addition to all of the world-class performances, I must say that my favorite event was the massed ensemble, which performed on the banks of the Danube River for the community passersby. So many diverse ages and countries were represented! There were literally hundreds of tuba and euphonium players from around the world making music together. I appreciated the opportunity to reconnect with friends and colleagues from around the world and to be inspired by the world class performances and presentation. Thank you!
I am continually honored and delighted to work with the members of the ITEA Board. We had productive board meetings in Linz and the upcoming months will be time for implementation of the ideas generated during the conference. Personally, and as part of the ITEA mission, we believe strongly in advancing everything about our instruments – delivering up to date pedagogy, commissioning new works, and helping to establish conferences on an annual basis. It is truly a labor of love and we are excited about the opportunity to serve you better.
Projects that we have in store for you this year include planning for and collaborating with hosts of ITEA Regional Conferences (see website for more info), overseeing the ITEA election process for 2013, and developing more of a presence for TE Press on the ITEA website. As an International membership organization, we are determined to grow and expand the “I” in ITEA. In order to serve our international members, we are expanding areas of our website and portions of the online Journal in multiple languages. Other projects include creating international membership exchanges, developing relations with other membership organizations and offering incentives for music educators. We are also beginning a project that will document the definitive history of ITEA.
We look forward to hearing from you. We hope that you’ll continue to support ITEA in its mission to grow and foster expansion around the globe and to new constituencies. Thank YOU for your involvement and support!
