ITEC 2025

Valencia (Spain) has been designated by the International Tuba and Euphonium Association (ITEA) as the venue for the International Tuba Euphonium Conference (ITEC), which will be held from June 23-29, 2025 in partnership with the Spanish Tuba and Euphonium Association (AETYB) as a host:

  • June 23-25, 2025 – ITEC Competitions
  • June 25-29, 2025 – Conference Festivities (performances, presentations, workshops, exhibits)

Valencia is a city that opens onto the Mediterranean Sea and combines tradition with modernity, has great cultural activity, is welcoming to the millions of people who visit it every year, is full of fun, and has an exquisite gastronomy to welcome the artists who will attend this conference. In terms of music, the city has the necessary facilities for a conference of this magnitude, it has a professional orchestra and band, numerous high-level amateur bands in the surrounding area, countless hotels to stay in, and connections to the main airports of the world.

The Palau de la Música, venue of ITEC Spain 2025, is the most representative place in Valencia for the musicians of the region, as it is home to the city’s Orchestra and Band. It has magnificent concert halls and facilities to carry out all the activities required at an ITEC. It also has important added extras such as a loading bay, public parking (by the hour) and its own restaurant. The Palau is located next to the Turia riverbed promenade in the center of Valencia, in an area with numerous cafés, restaurants and hotels, where it is easy to stay and easy to get to from any point in the City.

ITEC Spain 2025 aims to be a meeting place where artists, educators, students, amateurs, composers, manufacturers, vendors and the rest of the members of our collective can express our concerns, worries and projects related to the future of the euphonium and the tuba. A future in which inclusion, equity and fellowship are fundamental values for our community, where every voice counts, and every perspective enriches the way forward regardless of nationality, gender, sexual orientation, religion or age. Let us adopt a pluralistic vision of the world we live in, capable of uniting us for common causes and preserving our traditions, roots and customs as part of the cultural diversity that enriches humanity.

Half a century ago, our founders established the ITEA to promote and advance the tuba and euphonium. Our instruments have flourished considerably since our founding thanks to the collaboration of performers, composers, builders, repairers, retailers, publishers, programmers and others. To make further progress, it is crucial that we realize the importance of this collaboration between all of us who make up this great family. Therefore, we must explore together how to move forward on the road to a prosperous future for the euphonium and tuba, where we and our instruments reach the highest artistic heights.

Let us continue to build our future with determination and never stop believing in our dreams.

We are looking forward to welcoming you all in Valencia, Spain!

Pablo Fernández
ITEC 2025 Host

PROPOSALS

ITEC 2025 Proposals

If you want to play a concert or present a lecture at the ITEC 2025, please read the information below and fill out the form linked to at the end of this section.

SUBMISSION DEADLINE: December 15 2024 11.59PM EST

As you prepare your proposal (s), please consider the theme «Never Stop Dreaming».

Also keep in mind ITEA’s Mission Statement:
«ITEA shall foster bonds among all tuba and euphonium players, create enthusiasm for the instruments and its performers, celebrate diversity, support professional development, promote the sharing of resources, and encourage teaching and learning about the instruments.»

For academic presentations, we are looking for:

  • Usefulness. How interesting is the presentation for ITEC 2025 participants, and how can they benefit?
  • Originality. Is the presentation original, and does it bring something new to the topic?
  • Entertaining. Is the presentation entertaining?

For performances, we are looking for:

  • Musical excellence.
  • Diversity. We are looking for a wide variety of musical styles and performers. Please consider programming a work by an underrepresented composer.
  • Premieres. Commission, arrange or compose a work and premiere it at ITEC Spain 2025.

Other ideas are also welcome, such as:

  • Organize a panel discussion focusing on ITEC’s theme.
  • Something fun

Finally, we want to present a multifaceted program that appeals to ALL of our member groups, from amateurs to professional – students to teachers – classical to jazz – and everything in between!

You do not have to be an ITEA member to send in a proposal, but if your proposal is accepted, you need to be a member at the conference.

It is now past the deadline for new proposals.

Selection procedure

The selection procedure for performances at ITEC is designed to ensure the best possible conference program while maintaining fairness. The process is 100% anonymous and based on submitted recordings.

ITEA's conference coordinator, who is not part of the selection committee, gathers all proposals, including recordings, anonymizes them, and makes them available online to the committee. The committee does not know the performers' names, genders, or ethnicities.

Each selection committee member rates each proposal from 1 to 10 based on the published criteria, with 10 being the best. The numbers are then added and divided by the number of voting committee members, giving each proposal a rating representing the committee's average. Committee members are not allowed to rate their own proposal.

Based on the final ratings, a preference list is then made for each performance category. Invitations are sent to the top proposals in each category. The number of performances in each category is limited to available performance slots at the conference.

This method of selection was chosen in agreement with ITEA's Belonging Committee.

The arranger, AETYB, also has a quota for direct invitations to evening concerts.

COMPETITIONS

The scores with which the participants compete must be original.

Applicants will freely choose the Tuba or Euphonium that they consider appropriate to interpret each of the pieces in the Competition, with the exception of the Arnold Jacobs Mock Orchestral Tuba Competition, which specifies which Tuba should be used in each orchestral excerpt.

The organization of the competition will provide the material for the Arnold Jacobs Mock Orchestral Tuba Competition and for the Mock Wind Band and Orchestral Euphonium Competition through the links in each established section.
