Avant-Garde Music Competition for Euphonium or Tuba

The objective of the competition is to promote the innovative and creative performance of new avant-garde musical works for euphonium or tuba. The aim is to highlight the talent of the performers and their ability to address technical and stylistic challenges in the context of contemporary music.

Participants will be responsible for any musical accompanist required during the performances.

“A musical accompanist is defined as any person directly involved in the performance, whether as an instrumental accompanist or in any other relevant musical role”.

Any costs associated with the accompanist’s participation musical, including fees, travel, accommodation, or other related expenses, will be the sole responsibility of the participating performer.

The competition organization will provide the necessary technical support during the participants’ performances. This includes the availability of sound equipment, audio technicians, adequate lighting, and any other essential technical resources to ensure a smooth execution. Choice of Repertoire:

Competitors must perform works that highlight the technical and artistic capabilities of the Tuba or Euphonium in the context of contemporary avant-garde music.

Participants’ ability to present interpretations that show innovation and originality in the use of the Tuba or Euphonium will be evaluated. The presentation of unique and distinctive ideas in the choice of repertoire, interpretive approaches, arrangements or original compositions will be valued.

Competitors can freely choose the repertoire that best demonstrates the capabilities of the Tuba or Euphonium as a solo or featured instrument within an ensemble. They can choose to perform one long work or several shorter ones, as long as the total duration does not exceed 20 minutes.

ELIGIBILITY

All competitors must be ITEA members at the time of the live rounds (semifinals and finals) of the competition. Finalists and semi-finalists must be registered and present at ITEC. The competitors must never have held a full-time professional position as a musician on any instrument.
Contestants for the Young Artist solo and jazz competitions must not have reached their 19th birthday as of the day of the finals, see date information. A copy of a birth certificate, passport, or other definitive identification must be submitted with every entry application for the Young Artist competitions.

SUBMISSION OF MATERIALS

Recordings must be electronically submitted as one (1) MP3 file, not exceeding 15MB. All preliminary round recordings must include accompaniment where applicable. Recordings should be unedited (apart from removing silences and combining tracks) and include only required music with no speaking. Multiple work/movement and multiple excerpt submissions should be contained on one (1) MP3 format file only in the order specified for submission. All identifying information must be removed from the file (i.e., no names of individuals, schools, or teachers in the file title or in the metadata). All recordings will be presented to judges anonymously.

Upload or link directly to the file in Dropbox, Google Drive, etc. Do not include videos; only sound files.
