Regional Outreach 2005: Getting Back to the Grassroots
by Timothy Northcut

Greetings! I am delighted and honored to serve as the newly appointed Conference Coordinator for ITEA. Preparations are in full swing for the 2005 Regional Conferences. Efforts are being made to provide affordable meetings in easily accessible locations that are conveniently scheduled on a weekend.

As we gear up and return to our organization’s roots—regional conferences, I would like for you to consider how ITEA can serve you better. While conferences are the heart of what we do, the “pulse” of ITEA is healthy and strong throughout the year, through committees as well as individual efforts. Let us consider how we, as tubists and euphoniumists, can communicate our need and love of music close to home, in our regions.

At each 2005 Regional Conference, ITEA will host a Town Meeting. Beforehand, I encourage you to read R. Winston Morris’ guest editorial article published in the Spring 2003 issue of the ITEA Journal (Volume 30, Number 3). Let’s talk about how we can encourage more regional support and activity. Your suggestions and ideas are vital to the health of our organization, so please get involved!

Best wishes for a wonderful summer. A complete listing with details will follow in the Fall issue of the Journal. More to follow…
